LPS Schools To Compete In Tech-Now State Competition!

On April 27, 2022, Eisenhower High School (EHS) and MacArthur High School (MHS) will compete in Oklahoma’s Tech-Now State Competition – a competition surrounding the entrepreneurship, technology, and employment skills of Oklahoma’s high school students.

In Tech Now programs across the state, high school students participate in events where they leverage software and technology to prepare them for entrepreneurial roles.

Rick DeRennaux, the Tech-Now President, discussed the necessity of teamwork and cooperation while preparing for the large event.

\r\n

“As the students’ skills progress the required products for the competition increase in complexity, and the amount of time required to finish a given product also increases,” Rennaux said. “The most challenging elements of the competition are introduced in the second semester of the school year, and sometimes require the students to form small student ‘companies.’”

There is much more to entrepreneurship than just producing the  products. Students must evaluate cost and profit to determine if they are pricing their products efficiently, and learn how to communicate with potential customers to close the sale.

Claudia Beckner, Assistant Director of Special Education and Section 504 at LPS, notes the success and growth of the program across the district.

“[There is] so much to be proud of here with LPS having three high schools in the Tech-Now programs,” Beckner said. “We are now growing Tech-Now in LPS by going beyond the basic Tech-Now curriculum and moving toward entrepreneurial possibilities with our Tech-Now students/programs.”

The Tech-Now State Competition is held annually at Southmoore High School, and will be held from 9:45 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
