Ghosts and goblins were running rampant in the Eisenhower High School library recently during the school’s first Booktober Fest.
Ashley Romero, media library specialist, said she came up with the idea for the fest after the annual Fall Fest was cancelled.
“We wanted to do something for our students to be kids again,” Romero said.
So the library teamed up with various school clubs to offer a variety of activities for students to do after school one Friday afternoon in October.
“The clubs came up with their own activities and own prizes. This is great exposure for the clubs and organizations,” Romero said.
The Art Club offered face painting, the Unified Club offered a ring toss and the Native American Club offered a ball toss. Other activities included arts and crafts where students could color pictures, make a bookmark or do beading. Some students played games like Guess Who? or threw darts at balloons in hopes of winning candy.
No carnival would be complete without a cake walk, but Romero put a new twist on the game by turning it into a book walk. Students walked around in a circle by stepping on stickers on the floor. The winner of each round got to choose a book from the library cart.
“The kids are really buying into it,” Romero said as she looked around at the packed room.
And yes a few ghosts, sporting bed sheets with cut-out holes for eyes, were seen roaming around the library.
