Dear LPS Family and Community Members,

I am writing to you directly regarding a recent incident that has understandably caused concern within our community. Let me be clear from the outset: the conduct depicted in the video circulating on social media from one of our campuses is disturbing, unacceptable, and inconsistent with the standards we hold for our students and our athletic programs here at Lawton Public Schools.

As soon as the district became aware of the incident, an investigation was immediately initiated and contact was made with the proper authorities. Because this matter involves minor students, district personnel, and is an active investigation, we are limited in what we can publicly discuss. I know this is frustrating for those seeking answers, and I ask for your patience and understanding. The district cannot comment on individual disciplinary actions, personnel decisions, or the specific information considered in reaching those decisions. The district will review the verified facts, applicable district policies, and the due-process rights of everyone involved before making any final decisions. Appropriate action will be taken based on the findings of the investigation.

Beyond our response to this specific incident, I want you to know that we are taking broader action. District expectations and procedures will be reviewed again with every in-season coach and athlete, reinforcing clear standards regarding hazing, bullying, student safety, responsible citizenship, and conduct both on and off the court/field. We are also carefully examining what additional educational and preventive measures may be necessary to ensure that every coach and student understands these expectations and feels safe reporting concerns. No student should ever fear coming forward.

Student safety and dignity remain central to our work at Lawton Public Schools. Our students deserve to learn, compete, and grow in environments that are safe, respectful, and free from harm. We do not take that responsibility lightly, and we will continue to act in ways that earn the trust of the families and community we serve.
