Junior ROTC cadets from MacArthur High School, along with 129 cadets from 14 other schools, got a close-up view of Army life when they attended the JROTC Cadet Leadership Challenge (JCLC) June 1-5 on Fort Sill.
Cadets spent the week living in the Army barracks, eating breakfast and dinner in the Army Dining Facility with Army soldiers and eating MREs (Meals-Ready-to Eat). Training events consisted of Orienteering, Rappelling the 40-foot Treadwell Tower, executing the Combat Conditioning Course, and Teamwork Development Course. They also visited the AAFES Exchange and toured the Field Artillery Museum, the Air Defense Artillery Museum and the 95th Adjutant General (AG) Reception Battalion, where recruits arrive at Fort Sill.
The week culminated with the Closing Awards Ceremony, where several MHS cadets received awards. Cadet Yailiany Rivera Peraza was selected as the 2026 JCLC "Most Outstanding Cadet of the Cycle". Cadet Emma Hilburn was selected as the "Bravo Company Most Outstanding Cadet", Cadet Aliza Martin was selected as the Bravo Company, 1st Platoon, "Most Outstanding Cadet," and Cadet Tania Dorris was selected as the Bravo Company, 1st Platoon, "Most Motivated Cadet".
Other schools attending were from Lubbock, Texas; The Colony, Texas; Oklahoma City; Tulsa; and Lawton.
