Lawton Public Schools will hold a Job Fair March 31 to find new district personnel.
The LPS Job Fair is set from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. at Central Middle School, 1201 Fort Sill Blvd. Admission is free.
Christy Kellett, the district’s assistant director of human resources, said all school sites will participate in the event, with tables set up at Central Middle School and manned by principals or site managers. There also will be tables for district departments such as child nutrition, transportation, athletics and other areas where personnel are needed.
Kellett said vacancies occur each school year due to things such as retirements and, more commonly, military relocations because many of the Lawton district personnel have ties to the military (spouses of active duty personnel, for example).
Kellett said district administrators will do on-site interviews with potential employees, with candidates invited to apply for certified (teaching) and support staff positions to fill vacant and soon-to-be vacant positions at all levels across the district.
Candidates should come prepared to conduct an interview with school administrators, and have copies of their resumes and any certifications they may hold, such as food handler’s licenses, or teaching certifications for teaching positions.
In addition to certified staff at all elementary and secondary levels, Lawton Public Schools is looking for secretarial personnel, custodians, bus drivers, maintenance workers, cooks, and personal care assistants.
“We are hiring,” Kellett said, adding that while interviews will be conducted on site, actual hiring will depend on follow-up processes, to include checking credentials and passing background checks.
Kellett, who has been participating in LPS’s Job Fair for a decade, said the process has been successful in identifying new employees.
“We probably get 20 to 25 people,” she said of past events, adding Lawton Public Schools is a great place to work because it offers a good work atmosphere, family-friendly hours and great benefits.
