Choir members receive awards for excellence

Two MacArthur High juniors are recipients of 2026 Oklahoma Education Awards for Arts Excellence.

Brenan Brown and Sara Cheesman were named winners in the vocal music category, said April Abraham, choral director for MacArthur High and MacArthur Middle schools. The students and other award recipients will be honored during an awards ceremony set 7 p.m. April 21 at the Guthrie Scottish Rite Center in Guthrie.

Abraham said the recognition is given to high school juniors and seniors who have demonstrated exceptional artistic talent, academic achievement and leadership within their schools and communities. The 2026 awards winners included 43 vocal music students, 30 visual arts students, seven piano students, 38 instrumentalists, 19 drama/theatre students, and seven dance students.

“Brenan and Sara’s accomplishments reflect both their dedication and the strong support of our fine arts program,” Abraham said.

The awards program is presented through a collaboration among the Oklahoma Fine Arts Project, the Oklahoma Alliance for Arts Education, the Oklahoma Masonic Charity Foundation, and the Oklahoma Arts Council. Abraham said the organizations share a commitment to promoting the value of a well-rounded education and honoring student excellence in the arts. Students apply for the awards in February and March, with winners announced by the end of March.
