Educator, international speaker and best-selling author Robert Jackson will present a free workshop March 5 designed to bridge the gap among administrators, educators, parents and students.

The presentation will begin at 5:30 p.m. in the auditorium of Lawton High School, 601 Fort Sill Boulevard. The first 275 people to arrive will receive a free dinner from Chick-fil-A, said Danna Bross, Project AWARE community manager for Lawton Public Schools.

Bross said Jackson’s mission is to educate, motivate and empower school communities through love, trust, fairness, support, accountability and safety, focusing on techniques he has refined over the years.

The presentation, sponsored by Lawton Public Schools’ Project AWARE, is open to the public.

Jackson began his teaching career almost 25 years ago in Indianapolis Public Schools, championing a “no excuses” teaching approach with his students where he wouldn’t allow students to feel sorry for themselves or allow their circumstances to define their futures.

His high expectations for students, the same technique he applied as a coach, was successful; Jackson said some of his students went from low-performing youth to successful pastors, lawyers, school administrators, pro athletes and entertainers.

As a motivational speaker, Jackson has become an expert in teaching cultural diversity, restorative practices and socio-emotional learning, and how to keep troubled youth in school.

He said his goal is to guide educators and administrators in how to use their power more effectively to educate, activate and motivate, while challenging parents to take more active roles in their children’s education.

Jackson has published six books and has written articles for ASCD EL Leadership Magazine. His No More Excuses Curriculum has been featured in publications nationally.

Jackson attended Western Kentucky University, earning a bachelor of science degree in industrial technology while lettering in football and track for four years. He began his teaching career after being cut from the NFL Minnesota Vikings team.

Jackson is a life member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc. and the NFL Players Association. He is married to Essence best selling author Tajuana “TJ” Butler-Jackson and they have three children.
