Three students from MacArthur Middle School participated in the Oklahoma Choral Directors’ Association Junior High All-State Choir Festival on Jan. 10 in Oklahoma City.
About 2,000 students auditioned in the first round on Nov. 1 and 900 students auditioned in the second round on Nov. 18. Melody Witherspoon, Addison Hatch and Cassandra Magrath made it to the top 25 in their voice part, according to April Abraham, MMS teacher.
The students attended an intensive training with expert clinician Christopher Aspaas, leading up to a special concert on Jan. 10.
The choral conductor asked the students why they sing and encouraged them to write a letter of gratitude to someone who shaped their musical journey, Abraham said.
