Dear Parents:

\r\n

\r\nAt Freedom Elementary, your child's safety and the safety of our Freedom staff is always a top priority. Therefore, we are always planning and preparing our students and staff by having safety drills on a monthly basis. One very important safety drill that is practiced each year is our total evacuation drill. This drill involves our entire student body and staff evacuating to Snow Hall which is our designated evacuation site in case of an emergency.

\r\n

\r\nThis year, in conjunction with Fort Sill's mandatory Safe Eagles Full Scale (Active Shooter) exercise on Wednesday, March 27th, our students and staff will evacuate to Snow Hall while Fort Sill conducts their exercise. We will leave the building around 9:30 and will walk to Snow Hall with the assistance of the Military Police. While at Snow Hall, our students and teachers will be assigned to a specific classroom to conduct class and eat lunch. We will return to school with the assistance of the Military Police as soon as Fort Sill concludes the exercise.

\r\n

\r\nThis annual full scale evacuation exercise is required by the Oklahoma State Department of Education as well as Lawton Public Schools. The difference this year is that we will remain evacuated while Fort Sill conducts their exercise. Although this drill will be longer, we do not anticipate any issues during this year's evacuation since our students and staff always do an excellent job of following our school's emergency procedures. To help ensure a smooth operation it is very important that your child be in attendance, dressed for the weather, and wear comfortable walking shoes. In the case of a true emergency and you need to get in touch with the school during this time, you will still be able to text or email your child's teacher or school administrator.

\r\n

If you have any questions regarding this planned evacuation, please contact your child's teacher or \r\nschool administrator.

\r\n

\r\nSincerely,

Mikel Shanklin \r\nPrincipal,
