Meet our Principal

Melanie Nungesser

I am truly honored to be in my 6th year as Principal of Whittier Elementary. I was born and raised outside of Oklahoma City and spent most of my school years in the Mid-Del School District. I then spent 15 years traveling with my husband during his Army career before landing at Ft. Sill for our last duty station. During our travels, I was able to pursue my love of education and receive my Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from Kansas State University. Upon our arrival in Lawton, I begin my teaching career with LPS at Crosby Park Elementary, where I taught for eight years before becoming the Principal of Whittier. During my years at Crosby Park, I completed my degree coursework for a Master’s of Educational Leadership from Southwestern Oklahoma State University.

Family is very important to me. I have three amazing children, and one just as amazing daughter in love. I am a proud Noni of our first and only granddaughter and enjoy spending time with my husband and family. My parents and my husband’s parents have moved to Lawton and we are proud to call Lawton home. From a young age, I knew that I wanted to be an educator and I am so thankful that I am able to work with the amazing students, parents, and staff at Whittier Elementary.
