The Lawton Public School District strives to provide students with an athletic program that will promote the proper growth and development of young minds and bodies, generate a sense of pride in one’s self and create a sense of belonging to school and community. We believe that through participation in athletics, students develop important personal attributes such as initiative, responsibility and work ethic. We further believe that throughout life people is part of various teams, and that as a result of participation in team sports students learn cooperative skills and the importance of working together toward a common goal.

POLICY UPDATE:
FMFD - Interscholastic Athletics (Click link to view policy)
The Lawton Public Schools Board of Education approved the following revision to FMFD – Interscholastic Athletics at the Jan. 16 meeting. If a student’s parent/guardian makes a bona fide move of their primary residence, a student shall be deemed athletically eligible after attending all or part of fifteen separate days at that grade level at any school, or after participating in an interscholastic contest, including an interschool scrimmage, while at that grade level.
A Bona Fide Move is defined as the prior residence has been sold or leased at market value, or has been closed and emptied of personal property, the prior residence is not being used by any family member and all resident family members have moved out of the prior residence, and personal property associated with permanent, long-term occupancy is located in the new residence.
All claims of a Bona Fide Move are subject to an inspection (ie: contract, utility bills, site visits, etc.) of the prior and present residence by the Lawton Public Schools Athletic Department.

Cheer and dance squads are selected by try-outs in the early spring. Schools make announcements and posters are placed in every secondary school with the date, time and place of the try-outs. The sponsors in each school are the best sources for details. Contact the principals' offices of the secondary schools for email addresses of the sponsors.
