Pat Henry receives Project Lead the Way Recognition

On March 4, Project Lead the Way (PLTW) recognized Pat Henry Elementary School as a 2018-19 PLTW Distinguished Launch School.

PLTW is transformative learning experiences for PreK-12 students and teachers that engages classroom environments, empowers students to develop in-demand knowledge and skills they need to thrive.

This recognition program is designed to honor districts and schools committed to increasing student access, engagement and achievement as well as achieve exemplary results within their PLTW programs.

Pat Henry STEM teacher Doris Biegler said this recognition solidifies their hard work.

“Our students get to reap the benefits of PLTW because of the awesome grant that allowed Lawton Public Schools to purchase the first two units,” Biegler said. “At Pat Henry, we received a Lawton Foundation grant last year which allowed us to buy the third units for each grade. Our students love learning STEM using the PLTW units. They are all hands on activities that help teach students Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math.”

As part of the program, Pat Henry students worked with robotics, built simple machines, analyzed solar power, designed structures and more. PLTW has units for every grade from Pre-K through fifth grade.

“I really love using PTLW and this year we really focused on coding and computer programming during the hour of code,” Biegler said.

PLTW Director of School Engagement of the West Central Region Sara Wright said she appreciates teachers’ hard work and effort.

“We’re excited and privileged to recognize districts and schools for providing access to students so that they may learn to adapt and excel while also discovering their potential and the opportunities available to them,” Wright said. “This transformative learning experience comes to life in the classroom thanks to the vision and dedication of teachers and administrators.”
