What is Key Club?

The “Kiwanis Educating Youth!"  Key Club is a community service organization that is sponsored by the Downtown Kiwanis Club.  Our service year begins in April and ends the following March.

How do I join?

Come to any Tuesday meeting (2:15-2:45 p.m.) and pay your dues to our Treasurer. Dues are $12.00 this year ($6.50 for Key Club International, $5.00 for Texas-Oklahoma District of Key Club, and only 50 cents is retained by your club). The present club T-shirt is $10.00, and club members design a new shirt each fall.

What are my responsibilities as a member of good standing?

You must complete five hours of community service per month to remain an active member (officers must complete 10 hours of service per month). If you get over five hours in one month and are already caught up on previous months, then your extra hours will count for future months. There are numerous activities from which to choose, and you can select them from the “Upcoming Events” list on the back of every club agenda, on the list on Mrs. Rulison’s classroom door, or on this web site. Sign up sheets for projects are located at each meeting and on Mrs. Rulison's classroom door (room #157). Service opportunities continue throughout the summer months because Key Club is a year-round club. Our membership year begins in April and ends the following March. Your goal is to have 50 hours of community service through Key Club projects by March 2007 to be eligible to attend the Texas-Oklahoma District Key Club Convention. Also, if you go two months in a row (not including June and July) with zero hours, you will not be eligible for Convention. This is only counted since the time that you joined Key Club by paying you dues.

If I do not complete my service obligations, what happens?

The Club Secretary will notify you if you You will have until the end of the following month to make up the five hours in addition to the current month’s five-hour requirement. At the end of the second month if you are still behind, the Secretary will remove your name from the active member roster until you make up your service obligations.

What am I entitled to?

As an active Key Club member, you are authorized to include your service with this club on college applications, job applications, and scholarship applications (there are scholarships that are exclusive to Key Club members!). Additionally, you have an opportunity to attend District Key Club Convention at the end of March if you keep up with your hours.

What must I do to be eligible for  and where is District Convention?

This years' district convention will be from April 3 to April 6, 2008 and will be held at he Adam's Mark in Dallas, Texas. To be eligible to go you must have 50 hours, have attended one or more meetings a month, and have not had two consecutive months of zero hours.
