Teaming
Students at TMS are placed on a grade level team. Each team is comprised of 140-175 students and the 5 core teachers (English, math, reading, science, and social studies). The teachers meet for one period a day to discuss curriculum and other student related issues. Teaming allows teachers to create cross-curricular activities. For example, students may write a research report in English class that pertains to the current topic being taught in the social studies class, or students may take their data from a science experiment and create a graph in math class. Teaming helps create a more positive student-centered environment. Teams do activities together and celebrate successes such as Team Student of the Month. If a student experiences a success in one class, you can be sure he/she is going to be commended by his/her other teachers as well. Teams also help ensure that a student does not fall through the cracks. If a teacher has a concern, he/she is able to speak, on a daily basis, with the other teachers that also see the student.
