| There are a variety of programs at TMS available to help all our students to
succeed academically.
All 6 teams (not including electives) are organized to facilitate
cooperative teaching, pairing a special education teacher with another
certified teacher in the classroom.
The Tomlinson Gifted /Talented program provides various enrichment activities such as field trips that include science, art, and college career tours. It provides information for student regarding University of Oklahoma Horizons program, Teen Court, Medical Explorers and Gear-Up summer opportunities. It provides the 6th grade Explorations class year and the Duke University ACT Talent Search for 7th graders. As the gifted and talented facilitator, Mrs. Dennis meets with each identified child to monitor his/her progress, and maintain records. Additionally, she collaborates with site counselors, principals, and parents in pursuing appropriate opportunities, resources, and interventions for our students. TMS's mentoring program will begin its second year this November. The program is designed to assist students in achieving better results in school and to help them become life-long learners, and successful productive citizens. a trained adult mentor from within the school, along with the Army Partnership with Lawton Area Schools (APLAS) mentors, will be matched with a student that would benefit from this program. Together they will explore/discuss the importance of any number of the following keys to success at school, at home, and at work: work habits, self-confidence, peer relations, reliability, role of the family, behavior, goal setting, attendance, and punctuality, school achievement and preparedness, and health issues.

Middle Level Education Alternative Program (LEAP) is designed to assist students who are “at-risk.” Examples of at-risk would include risk factors such as poor school attendance, failing grades, family crisis, social/emotional/medical issues. Students who may be at risk of leaving school before graduation, they may have social and or emotional issues, discipline problems. Issues which may affect academic achievement and relationships,etc. The Success Maker Program is a Title I/Ace Remediation after school program that provides remediated instruction for TMS 8th grade students. Students attend class two days per week for two extra hours and one Saturday month for four hours to receive instruction. All students who complete the program without any absences are rewarded with an end-of- the-year trip. the program runs from September to April. a curriculum designed to improve student’s social and personal decision-making skills. This course is designed to provide a support system on a one-on-one basis. The objective is to engage students in a meaningful examining of their social and personal actions and how their choices will determine their outcome. The purpose of the SAP is to help students achieve academic success by addressing behavioral, emotional and social needs through targeted prevention and intervention services. Title I provides Reading and Math assistance before, during, and after school to students who are high- and moderate-risk. The Title I teachers inform parents of assistance opportunities based on need. Title I funds allow our students to learn using some of the latest technology including mobile labs, clickers (eInstruction), and SmartBoards. Title I also coordinates twice monthly parent involvement activities throughout the year. Title VII middle school tutors are required to provide
