Bio-Traci Harmon Newell
Traci was born in Lawton and spent several years here while her father was serving as Marine stationed at Ft. Sill. Her travels included England, Moore, Oklahoma, Quantico, Va. and she graduated from Fallbrook Union High School near Camp Pendleton, California. Her mother, Susie Crook Harmon, was born and raised in Lawton, and her grandmother, Lorena Crook, still lives here. She graduated with a degree in Early Childhood Education from Oklahoma State University, Stillwater, Oklahoma. Mrs. Newell received her Master's degree in Elementary Administration, from Southwestern Oklahoma State University, in Weatherford, Oklahoma. She began her career at the former Roosevelt Elementary School where she taught for six years before transferring to Hugh Bish Elementary. After teaching there for an additional six years, she taught at Learning Tree Academy for two years before moving into administration. Mrs. Newell served one year as an Assistant Principal at Edison Elementary under the leadership of Vic Stoll before returning to serve as Principal at the Learning Tree Academy for two years. Recently she helped to close down B.C. Swinney Elementary after serving as the principal there for four years. Most recently she completed a year as principal at Washington Elementary. Mrs. Newell is starting her 23rd year with Lawton Public Schools and her first year as principal at Woodland Hills Elementary. Traci is married to Mike Newell a graduate of Eisenhower Elementary, and they have one son, Harmon Newell who is a Sophomore at Lawton High School. When not helping to make the students of Lawton Public schools career bound successful members of society, she enjoys watching her son play football and baseball, read, scrapbook, and run 5K races.
