School Year Application Information


(Terms of service are for two years.) DEIC consists of 42 members, the majority of which are teachers.

Categories of DEIC service that will have an opening are:

  • Elementary Teacher
  • Middle School Teacher
  • High School Teacher
  • Special Education Teacher- both elementary and secondary
  • Counselor- both elementary and secondary
  • High school administrator
  • Parent/Community member

Serving on DEIC requires attendance at a monthly one-hour meeting on the fourth Wednesday of each month at 4:00 in the Shoemaker Center auditorium. You may be asked to serve on an additional ad-hoc committee as the need arises.

All curriculum and instructional decisions that impact the students of Lawton Public Schools must come through DEIC. (New courses, instructional materials, academic programs, etc.) It can arguably be called the most important LPS committee.

Applications to serve on DEIC are due no later than September 10. If you are interested, I would encourage you to go ahead and complete the application at this time.


Vision Statement

The District Educational Improvement Council (DEIC) is a representative group of district personnel and community members that advises the board of education, through the superintendent, in matters concerning curriculum development and instructional planning. Lawton Public School District educators may address curriculum matters to the DEIC.

The major functions of the DEIC will be to:

  • Communicate with the superintendent and the board of education long-range plans for curriculum development and review.
  • Establish and coordinate a systematic, ongoing process for evaluating curricula.
  • Establish and coordinate a systematic, ongoing process for resource selection.
  • Act as the communication link between the certified staff, the superintendent and the board of education.
  • Study curriculum concerns of certified personnel, the superintendent and the board of education.
  • Coordinate subject-area committees to develop and implement high achievement, results-based curriculum.
  • Promote and encourage communication between buildings and levels within the district.
  • Request appropriate funding from the superintendent and board of education.
  • Promote curriculum that has been scientifically research based.
