Hugh Bish students, parents and staff wish a warm welcome to our new military families in the Lawton-Fort Sill community. A special welcome to our Fort Bliss families coming to Fort Sill. Hush Bish is a military friendly school with almost one-half of the school having military connections, the most of any school off post.
Military Child Education Coalition We are very proud of all our families. We have special involvement with our military families and their unique needs. We have three staff members who are nationally trained with the MCEC and committee of staff members who are here to help military families with educational needs while attending Hugh Bish Elementary School and living in the Lawton - Fort Sill Community. All our families make up our community and we are here for all our Hugh Bish families. Ms.
Well, school counselor
Mrs. Crawford and Mr. McDowell work with Ms. Wells in this important effort. Learn more about the Military Child Education Coalition if you are a military family in our community.

Back to School Night! WOW! What a great turnout! The Back to School Night was a major success as so many proud parents brought their wonderful children to school to meet their teacher for this year and drop off their school supplies. This helps everyone get a super start for an extremely successful school year with a kick off at 8:45 a.m. on Friday. Thank you for attending.
Morning
Doors Open FREE BREAKFAST Please note students may enter the building at 8:35 a.m. each school day morning for our FREE BREAKFAST to all Hugh Bish students every morning. Students NOT eating breakfast will enter the left front door at 8:45 a.m. to go directly to the common area for the daily morning assembly and will be joined by breakfast eaters as soon as they have finished breakfast. It is extremely that ALL students be on time and present for school daily. Each educational opportunity is a positive step toward each child's educational foundation and continued growth. Students arriving after 9:00 a.m. are considered tardy and will need a entry pass from the office to enter their classroom.
Departure Time Students are released for the day with the final day's bell at 3:45 p.m. LPS sets all school clocks on the bell system within the district from one clock, which may differ from your clock/watch a little. Please wait outside the front doors and away from the doors. We have twelve classrooms that dismiss through the front doors and we need a great deal of room for people to get out, quickly and safely find their afternoon ride or preferably walking companions.
Hugh
Bish various items (Box Tops for Education, Campbell soup labels, Tyson Foods points, recycling inkjet ink cartridges, and if you shop at Country Mart be sure to tell the cashier to enter the Hugh Bish number) to help raise money in general for the school. Please watch for details soon as we will have a web page just for ways to help the school in raising money, donating library books, etc. We are also recycling paper, cardboard boxes, etc. Look for what we cannot recycle in the near future. When sending ink jet cartridges, PLEASE, put them in a zip lock bag so students do not get ink on them or the school supplies. These may be deposited in the green and white recycle box in front of the front office. Save your Box Tops More information coming soon, but for now, look for the Box Tops for Education coupon on almost anything. We have added a printer friendly version of the graphic below if you want to see on what all the box tops are available. We will have more information soon on a separate web page within this site. We are also collecting, Campbell Soup labels, Tyson chicken points and recycling ink cartridges. Watch for information on these items soon.
BULLYING
AND HARRASSMENT Mrs. Wells, our school counselor has started the annual class instruction on bullying and harassment. Your child should bring home a small poster to keep to help them remember that bullying and harassment is wrong and should be reported to their teacher so it may be investigated and dealt with. The posters she gave students are on her web page. This is another step we take at Hugh Bish to keep ALL students safe.
Labor
Day NO SCHOOL We will observe the federal holiday of Labor Day on September 6 with closed schools throughout the Lawton Public Schools district. Have a safe and fun holiday.
Have
you ever seen Get ready! We are ready for our Walking School Bus this year. Weather permitting; the Hugh Bish Walking School Bus will walk to and from school on October 7th and each Wednesday after. Watch the newsletter and web site for more information. We need parent, grandparent, uncles and aunts, etc. to help in walking with the students. A background check is required. If interested, please contact the school at 248-2244 and leave your name and phone number so we may discuss this with you. Students desiring to walk with the Walking School Bus MUST have a permission form completed and on file at the school. Those will be coming out very soon to students who live within one-half mile of the school. Please let your teacher know you want to do this. Bicycles may join in too, with permission slips on file and as long as they "walk" their bikes. Pick up and drop off points will go out to those who sign up and complete a permission form.
If you are not walking think about another type of transportation. We must reduce the number of personal vehicles bringing students to school and being picked up daily. We must help the environment! And it would be much safer around the school and the whole neighborhood if Safe Routes to School philosophies were adopted and applied by everyone. Bicycle riders!!! Hugh
Bish is offering a Bicycle Rodeo on September 9th.
Walking
School Bus The Hugh Bish Walking School Bus started August 24, 2010. We will start walking at 8:15 a.m. that morning and will walk to school in time for breakfast or the daily Knight Time Assembly. We will begin the first walking route in the northeast part of the neighborhood. The meeting site is the grassy area between the two apartment complexes at 52nd Street and Asbury. WE NEED YOUR HELP! Volunteers are needed to help walk dozens of students safely to and from school. We will NOT walk on days where the weather is extreme, i.e. wind chill below 32 degrees. Please contact the office if you would like to help in a morning or afternoon or even both. Thank you for your support and interest in the program.
