2007-2008 list

This page will allow you to view the happenings at Hugh Bish this school year that have been posted to our web site. Posting outdated or older information here will allow 1) you to view only the most current information on our opening page preventing that page from being pages of scrolling and 2) a place to archive events for the year so you may read the events of the year without missing a thing. The most current is at the top of the page, the oldest information at the bottom.

Welcome to our "Knights in shining armor" new web site for our school.  This site is new for the 2007-2008 school year and will progress all year.  We welcome your comments and suggestions.  Send us items you would like to see added to the site.  We must, however, operate under the guidelines of the Lawton Public Schools so some items may not be allowed.   Send your suggestions and ideas to our webmaster by clicking HERE.  Please put the words "Hugh Bish web site" at the beginning of the message.

Please note you should refresh your browser or set your browser to automatically check for updates as we will make frequent updates and your browser must update to find our most current information.

We have several new staff members this year and we will introduce them on this site soon.  We will also have a staff page where you may view staff members and e-mail those with LPS district mail.  We will NOT post private e-mail addresses on this site.

We want to first welcome new leadership in our outstanding building for this school year.  Mrs. Tamie Barrett is coming to Hugh Bish from MacArthur Middle School where she served on their administration staff.  She is energetic and full of wonderful ideas to keep Hugh Bish the outstanding school it is and she will lead us through continued improvements.

Our first event for this year was enrollment.  You may click on the link to the left for enrollment information provided by LPS.

Popcorn & Pickle Fridays

Our wonderful PTSA will sell popcorn and pickles on Fridays.  Popcorn is $.25 (twenty-five cents) and pickles are $.50 (fifty cents) each.  Buy as many as you like on Fridays.  Students MUST turn in their money to their homeroom teacher each Friday MORNING.  See the popcorn and pickle page for more information.

Cafeteria Procedure

Please carefully read the cafeteria procedure you received during enrollment.  We take student safety very seriously, therefore have included the information on our web site for your future reference.  Please click HERE for the cafeteria procedures.

Lunch Schedules

Lunches will be served by grade daily as follows:
(subject to change for occasional special events and circumstances.)

10:55 - 11:25  Kindergarten
11:40 - 12:10  Transitional First & First Grades
12:20 - 12:50  Second & Third Grades
  1:00 -   1:30  Fourth & Fifth Grades

Attendance is extremely important
for student maximum success.

It is not only the law that children attend school, but we all want the best education possible for all our children.  Children should arrive at school in a timely manner each school day morning and be picked up or appropriate arrangements made each afternoon.  Please see the attendance note at the attendance link for more information.

Parent Portal is coming!

Parent Portal is a way for the parents (and students) to see the grades that the student is currently making in their class from the comforts of their own home computer.  Click here for more information.

Welcome Back to School NIGHT

Come join us Thursday evening, August 16th for a back to school night at Hugh Bish.  The time is from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.  This is a time for parents to bring their child/children to school to find their classroom, find out who their teacher will be, meet the teacher, and leave school supplies.  This helps students get over those first day jitters.  PTSA will be conducting a brief meeting and serving refreshments

DRIVERS ! ! !

Please continue to drive very cautiously around the school and neighborhood.  We as adults must watch extra carefully for the children as they from time to time forget to look and dart out between or around cars.  We want everyone, walkers and drivers, to be safe.

Driving through the parking lot.

At the end of the day our buses will be using the inside lane of the driveway.  This is the lane closest to the front door on the south side or front of the building.  Do NOT park in this lane until after all seven bused have left the building.  Mr. McDowell and other staff members will have you move your vehicle.  The buses must have room to safely navigate.  The faster and more safely we can get the buses in and out of the parking lot, the sooner we can fully use the drive way for parent's vehicles.  Thank you for helping us with this item.  This is a major safety issue and we want all our children to be safe.  See our August 27, 2007 newsletter for a map explaining this.

School is in session, watch your speed

School is back in session in Lawton. Please remember that lower speed limits are now in effect around public schools during school days.

The Lawton Police Department is enforcing speed limits around all schools in the community. Slowing down can help you avoid a costly ticket — one that starts out at $240 and goes up the more you exceed the 20 mph speed limit around schools. Last year police wrote more than 750 tickets for excessive speed in school zones. Don’t be one of those unlucky motorists this year. Getting a ticket could be costly ... but not nearly as costly as endangering the life of a child. Please drive carefully, for all our children.

“Parent Portal”
IS up and running

Parents and guardians of students in the Lawton Public Schools will soon be able to keep a close eye on their children’s educational progress via their home computer. “Parent Portal” is a new Internet program offered by LPS that gives adults access to student grades at the click of a mouse.

In order to access “Parent Portal,” the adult must go by their child’s school, sign the appropriate releases and show proper ID. Because of security and student privacy issues, application for access must be done in person. After approval, the adult will receive log-on and access instructions, along with a password.

DRIVERS!!!
update

We are almost at 100% appropriate driving in the parking lot in front of the school. We still have three to five drivers who are inappropriately using the bus and day care lane. Day care vehicles using the bus lane should be clearly marked by decals, painted logos or windshield signs easily seen several cars away. Day care and LPS buses have multiple stops they must make each morning and afternoon. Please help them be on time by keeping the bus lane open just for LPS buses and our area day care vehicles.

The safe driving and courteous drivers at Hugh Bish has been noticed and is greatly appreciated, except for the one who refused to move out of the bus lane and tried to run over Mr. McDowell the week prior to fall break.
