About Hugh Bish Elementary Hugh Bish Elementary School is a Kindergarten through 5th grade public school and part of the Lawton Public School system located in southwest Oklahoma. We are fortunate to also have the U. S. Army post of Fort Sill as part of our community. Hugh Bish has a very large military child attendance, around 48% of the school population. We have three nationally trained Military Child Coalition staff members too.
Our
school mascot is the Knight.
Hugh Bish is a Blue Ribbon school. Today, the Blue Ribbon Schools Program serves three purposes. First, it identifies and recognizes outstanding public and private schools across the nation. Second, the Program makes research-based effectiveness criteria available to all schools so that they can assess themselves and plan improvements. Third, the Program encourages schools, both within and among themselves, to share information about best practices based on a common understanding of criteria related to educational success. Blue Ribbon Schools are models of both excellence and equity. To be recognized, a school must demonstrate a strong commitment to educational excellence for all students. The Program welcomes applications from schools that have demonstrated sustained success in achieving these values, as well as schools that have overcome obstacles and can provide evidence of significant improvements.
Other General School Information School
instructional hours are 9:00 a.m. to 3:45 p.m.
Breakfast is served each school day from 8:35 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. Lunch schedules are by grade level and if you desire to eat with your child/grandchild, etc. please call the school the day before so we may make sure your lunch is included in our meal preparation count. We welcome appropriate visitors to our outstanding school. Again, for everyone’s safety, please check in at the office before proceeding down any hallway. Because the safety of our children is of the utmost importance to us all, children should not arrive at the school building before 9:00 a.m. unless they are eating breakfast which is served at 8:35 a.m. and is a Universal FREE BREAKFAST for all Hugh Bish students. Students NOT eating breakfast at school will enter the building at 8:50 a.m. in time for our daily morning assembly. Students arriving after 9:00 a.m. will be counted as tardy and must have a pass from the office to enter classrooms. If your child is going to be late or absent, please call the office before 9:15 a.m. on that day. Children picked up before 3:45 p.m. must be checked our through the office and a photo ID is required as is the person picking up the student must be on the enrollment card as being authorized to do so. Students should be picked up promptly at 3:45 p.m. Please remember, a picture ID is required to pick up a student and the person picking up the student MUST previously be listed on the enrollment card. We do offer an extended day program for those needing this service. Extended day services are offered every school day, Monday through Friday. If we have Saturday school due to bad weather, we will NOT have extended day services on Saturday school days. Morning hours are from 7:00 a.m. to 8:35 a.m. Afternoon hours are from 3:45 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Breakfast is served in the mornings, FREE. And a healthy snack is included in the afternoon. Space is limited and Mrs. H. Pugh is the program director. Specific questions should be addressed direct to her. The Extended Day Program is currently FULL. Please give Mrs. Pugh time to work on some options. She is aggressively working to do what she needs to stay in compliance with the state standards required. STUDENTS
MUST BE SIGNED We use student planners at Hugh Bish. These planners are used to help student learn organization skills, track their own school work, keep a list of spelling words, upcoming test and other events, as a reference of the day’s work accomplishments, and as a daily communication tool between home and school. The planners we use are available ONLY at our school for a small cost of $5.00 each. See the office staff to purchase one. Mrs.
Schmahl sells healthy snacks
and water daily in the gym. Popcorn and Pickles. Our PTA sells popcorn ($.50/fifty cents) and pickles ($.75/seventy-five cents) on most Fridays. We hope you will choose to become a member of our PTA ($5.00) and work with them in becoming a classroom volunteer. The
Knight News,
our school newsletter is normally sent home weekly on Mondays. Please
read it carefully to stay apprised of special events, awards, and helpful
information. Also, watch this web site often for updated information.
We also make the newsletters available online for family members who
live away to view. Please share this web site link with them. Booster
Club: Our sports program is overseen by the Booster Club. All
sporting events are coordinated between a school's booster club and
the city of Lawton's Parks and Recreation department.
