Our Mission: The Eisenhower Junior High Viking Band's Mission is to teach students to develop PRIDE in themselves, and their band, a winning ATTITUDE in band and life, and COMMITMENT to the group.

About Us:

Susan Haas- Concert Band and Woodwind specialist. She has taught elementary, junior high and high school band in Meford, Cushing, Wakita and Lawton for 26 years. She also plays clarinet in the Lawton Philharmonic Orchestra, the Oklahoma Baptist Symphony, and the Cameron Baptist Church Orchestra. She has a Bachelor of Music Education and a Master of Music in clarinet performance from Southwestern Oklahoma State University.

Pat VanderTook- Beginning Band and Percussion Specialist. He has taught band at Depew, Berryhill, Sand Springs, Moore and Lawton. He joined the Eisenhower Junior High staff in January of 2006. He has a Bachelor of Music from Oklahoma Baptist University. Pat also plays percussion in the Oklahoma Baptist Symphony and in churches throughout Oklahoma.

Joel Haas- Eisenhower High School director and brass specialist. He has taught 25 years directing elementary, junior high and high school bands in Kremlin, Cushing, Marlow, Walters and Lawton. joel plays piano at Cameron Baptist Church, Oklahoma Baptist Symphony and trumpet in the Cameron Baptist Church orchestra. He has a Bachelor of Music Education and a Master of Music Education from Southwestern Oklahoma State University.

The Viking Band Program

The Eisenhower Junior High Band consists of 6th, 7th and 8th grade students in 1 of 4 classes.

Honor Band- Students must have at least 1 year of band experience. This group is by audition only and meets 5th hour. They perform at pep assemblies, concerts, and contest.

Woodwind Class- This class is for beginning flute, clarinet, or saxophone students with no previous experience. This class meets 4, 5, or 7th hour. These students, together with the brass and percussion classes will perform 2 concerts, a concert contest, and a solo and ensemble contest.

Brass Class- This class is for beginning trumpet, trombone, baritone and tuba students with no previous experience. This class meets 4.5. or 7th hour. These students, together with the woodwinds and percussion classes will perform 2 concerts, a concert contest, and a solo and ensemble contest.

Percussion Class- This class is for beginning percussionist. Due to so many wanting to take this class, it is by audition only. Previous piano experience is helpful. These students, together with the brass and woodwinds will perform 2 concerts, a concert contest, and a solo and ensemble contest.

Viking Band News!!!!!!!

Congratulations to the Honor Band on a great performance at District band contest. The band received a superior rating in sight-reading and an excellent rating in concert competition. They were 1 of 4 bands out of 18 that received a superior in sight-reading.

The Beginning Band recently competed at the Marlow Band Festival in band competition, receiving superior ratings from all three judges. They also competed in solo and ensemble competition along with students from Honor Band, bringing home 51 superior medals and 3 excellent ribbons. Those receiving solo medals:

The beginning band will be playing for Ike Elementary on Monday, April 28th at 3:00. Since this is after school, they will need a ride home at about 3:40. This is a required performance and 4 grades. Dress is band polo shirt and jeans.
 
Our spring concert is Thursday, May 1st at 7:00. The beginning band will report at 6:30 on stage and the honor band will report at 6:30 in the bandroom. We will be featuring the orchestras and the bands on a musical trip around the world. We also have guest soloists on recorder from Crosby Park, Edison, Country Club and Almor West.
 
The honor band will be on tour on Friday, May 2. We will be playing at Crosby Park, Almor West and Bishop Schools. The band members will be going to 5th hour and lunch at the junior high. We will also be going on our trip to Incredible Pizza in OKC that evening returning at 9:30. Please be there to pick up your student. Dress will be band polo shirt and jeans for tour and comfortable clothes(dress code) for Incredible Pizza. Student must pay $23 for the trip or have money in their account from the fundraisers.
