The Oklahoma Sex Offenders Registry
Protecting our children is an overriding concern for the Lawton Public Schools. The best way to do this is to provide access to current information essential in ensuring their safety. To that end, the Lawton Public Schools provides this link to the official State of Oklahoma Sex Offender Registry. This website, maintained by the Oklahoma Department of Corrections, provides public information on sex offenders required to register pursuant to the Sex Offenders Registration Act, 57 O.S. 581-590.
Convicted sex offenders are prohibited from living within 2000 feet of any educational institution, nor can they be within 300 feet of any elementary or junior high school unless they are the custodial parent of a student at that school and are involved in an activity associated with their child. It is also unlawful for a convicted sex offender to work on the premises of any school. In Oklahoma, sex offenders are required to register with the Department of Corrections and with their local law enforcement agency.
The Oklahoma Department of Corrections updates the registry daily to provide the most complete and accurate information. Through regular correspondence and cooperation with local law enforcement agencies, address and other information is updated to ensure its validity and timeliness. However, information changes quickly and much of the information contained in a registration record has been provided by the registrants themselves. Therefore, accuracy of this information cannot be guaranteed at all times. Reliance on any information provided in the registry is solely at the user's risk.
The Lawton Public Schools is not qualified to assess the specific risk of re-offense with regard to any individual prior to his or her inclusion on this site and has made no determination that any individual included in the registry is currently dangerous. Individuals are included solely by virtue of their conviction record and state law. The primary purpose of providing this information is to make the information easily available and accessible to the patrons of Lawton Independent School District No. 8.
The Lawton Public Schools shall not be responsible for any use or reliance on information provided, or the lack of any information present that might result in injury or damage of any kind. Sex offender registry information shall not be used to retaliate against registrants, their families or their employers in any way. Vandalism, verbal or written threats of harm are illegal and will result in arrest and prosecution.
In addition to checking this site, you should contact the Lawton Police Department or the Comanche County Sheriff's Department for information they may have about known sex offenders living in Lawton.
Helpful hints to use the registry:
- It is not necessary to know a person's name to find out if a school's neighbor is a convicted sex offender – the registry can be searched by state, city, county or zip code for a wider range of results. To compile a list of sex offenders living in the community, simply type the word “ Lawton” in the “City” block under the “Search – Basic” function, then click on the “Search” button.
- As an alternative to the city search, typing the word “Comanche” in the “County” block instead, then clicking on the “Search” button will yield a larger list that includes all sex offenders living in Comanche County, both inside and outside the Lawton city limits.
- Also check "Delinquent registrations." There are more than 1200 registered sex offenders believed to be in violation of the Sex Offenders Registration Act. If you have information as to their whereabouts, please notify local law enforcement authorities.
